Abstract

Many chest radiographic reports include the term atelectasis. Atelectasis means incomplete lung expansion. There are several pathophysiologic mechanisms that result in atelectasis. Pneumonia and atelectasis are often considered in the differential diagnosis of airspace opacities and can be difficult to differentiate.
