Abstract
Attachment theory is a prominent framework for understanding the social and emotional development of a person from infancy through adulthood. Aspects of this theory are relevant for the clinical treatment of psychiatric disorders. This entry discusses the basic elements of attachment theory and how they can be applied in the clinical treatment of children from birth to 10 years of age.
