Abstract

An efficient Kaiman filter based algorithm has been proposed for the spacecraft attitude estimation problem for the EO-3 GIFTS mission using split field of view star camera and 3-axis rate gyros. The conventional spacecraft attitude algorithm has been modified for on-orbit estimation of interlock angles between two FOV's, gyro axis and spacecraft body frame. The real time estimation of the interlock angles will make it robust to thermal and environmental effects unlike in ground estimation.
