Abstract
Literature abounds with computer integrated manufacturing, automation, unmanned factory, etc. However, most often, the relevant actual implementation details are ignored. This paper concentrates on the development of an automated system for generating operation standard sheets for shearing operations in a farm equipment manufacturing company. The system, implemented, for day-to-day operations, starts with a particular part to be sheared and generates an optimal shearing pattern and methods. It computes standard times and prints out an operation standard sheet. This system is implemented in a Microsoft Windows environment and uses Clipper, Microsoft C, and dBASE IV as software vehicles. The system is highly modular, user friendly, and easily updatable and is currently being used in day-to-day operations.
