Abstract
The technique of plating gold-199 onto silicon dust in the presence of HF is capable of producing particles in the sub-micron range suitable for autoradiographic exposure. Such particles can be used to study processes which deposit, transfer or remove particulate contamination. This approach is particularly useful where particles from different sources must be distinguished, or where microscopic topology frustrates dark-field observation. The theoretical limit of detectability appears to be particles a few nanometers in diameter.
