Abstract

Statistics is a relatively new science with most of the important developments occurring within the last 100 years. The goal of this unit is to summarize some of the philosophical ideas behind statistics and to provide a general framework in the form of flowcharts for deciding which statistical test is appropriate for a given dataset and scientific question. Also provided is a list of references and software for commonly used statistical methods.
