Beurteilung von Sozialen Verhaltens-problemen und Erziehungs- schwierigkeiten im Vorschulalter Eine Untersuchung zur Deutschen Adaptation des Eyberg Child Behavior Inventory (ECBI)

This article reports data on the the German adaptation of the Eyberg Child Behavior Inventory (ECBI) from a sample of 718 preschool children using ratings from 715 mothers and 566 fathers. The item analysis showed a broad range of intensity and problem scores together with satisfactory item-test correlations and homogeneity of the 36 ECBI-items. A psychometric analysis of the ECBI scales revealed satisfactory reliability scores similar to the US version. However, we found higher intensity and problem scores, a result which at least partially reflects cultural differences. In line with international findings, boys had higher intensity and problem scores than girls, and mothers reported a higher rate of the child's behavioral problems and parenting problems than fathers. Validation data using the Social Behavior Questionnaire (SBQ) showed substantial correlations within the same informant and relatively low cross-informant correlation (parents, preschool-teacher). In sum, the German adaptation of the ECBI seems to be a reliable, sensitive, and economical diagnostical instrument for the assessment of behavioral problems at least in preschool children.
