Abstract
The embedded capacitor components that fulfill a large range of functions, including decoupling, filtering, and low-loss termination loads are discussed. Integral capacitors that incorporate high-dielectric-constant (K) materials are being explored for organic and ceramic substrates. The optimal material choice depends on the capacitor function. For embedded thin-film or thick-film capacitors in printed circuit boards, several oxide families have been explored in terms of temperature stability, permittivity, leakage current and nonlinearity with applied electric field.
