Abstract

Formulae for the bifurcation of free-free, rectangular, isotropic, thin film/substrateplates under the action of intrinsic film stress and initial strain are developed. The formulae are in terms of fundamental material properties and plate parameters and are presented in a compact form. Bifurcation behavior over a range of material and geometric combinations, as well as limiting cases, are investigated.
