Abstract

Bioactive glasses have proven to be multifunctional biomaterials due to their versatile range of applications. They release ionic dissolution products which promote gene regulation. Genes encode proteins associated with vital mechanisms of the human body. It is very important to unravel the gene expression mechanism by bioactive glasses in order to understand cell behavior. This chapter will discuss the molecular response to bioactive glasses as well as the effect of ion dissolution products on gene expression.
