N2 - Chronic pain is a prevalent issue among older adults, and effective communication plays a crucial role in accurately conveying the nature of their pain. However, older immigrant adults with limited English proficiency (LEP) encounter significant challenges in expressing the severity and type of pain they experience, creating additional obstacles in their interactions with healthcare providers. This study explored the experience of managing pain among 26 Farsi-speaking older adults with chronic pain. Semi-structured interviews were conducted and data were analyzed using grounded theory methodology. Using the biopsychosocial framework, three main categories of psychological, social, and biological factors arose from data. Depression, stress, sleep disturbances, lack of social support, health literacy, and misdiagnosis or underdiagnosis affected managing pain among older immigrants with LEP. Providing culturally and linguistically competent healthcare providers, particularly in states with a higher number of LEP immigrants, will help maximize the quality of care for patients with chronic pain.
