N2 - A new type of fragmented cylindrical antenna geometry is introduced that can be applied to common monopole and dipole antennas. Metallic regions of a cylindrical conductor are selectively removed in order to generate alternate current paths that can allow for increased operating bandwidth. Here, the metal patterning is optimized using the covariance matrix adaptation evolutionary strategy (CMA-ES) and a method-of-moments simulation tool to obtain antennas with a large operating bandwidth and quality radiation patterns.
