Buffers within a flexible machine framework

Abstract

This paper presents computer simulation models of production lines with buffered flexible machines. A flexible machine is capable of switching operations from one to another. The study is concerned with the effect of intermediate buffer size and allocation on the production rate under different conditions in such a production line system.
