Abstract
Ultrasonic C-scan is a versatile NDT method that can be used to evaluate a wide range of structural geometries. C-scan lends itself to both fabrication quality control and in-service inspection of composite materials. A combination of pulse-echo and through-transmission data allows quick evaluation of composite structures. With the addition of gray-scale analysis, more information about defect size, shape, and location can be obtained. In a typical C-scan setup, the transducer and the part under evaluation are usually immersed in water. In this way, the transducer can move across the part without direct contact - the water provides sonic coupling. Other media are also available.
