Abstract
Carbon-carbon bond cleavage in dianions is faster than in radical anions as expected from thermodynamic considerations. However, in contrast to the radical anion fragmentation, where ΔG‡ ≅ ΔG, the dianion scission has a much larger intrinsic barrier (ΔG‡ ≫ ΔG).
