Cardiac Device Emergencies

Abstract

Cardiac devices relevant to prehospital care include pacemakers, implantable cardiac defibrillators or ICDs, and left ventricular assist devices or LVADs. Types of pacemaker malfunction and their management are discussed. ICD indications, inappropriate shocks, and their management are reviewed. Finally, the assessment and management of patients with LVADs are discussed, including considerations for cardiac arrest and common complications.
