Abstract
Caring for prehospital patients with behavioral health issues is an everyday occurrence for prehospital providers. These patient are typically challenging, but even more so when they are concomitantly suicidal and agitated. This chapter will provide an overview on best practices regarding the prehospital management of the agitated suicidal patient, important legal aspects, medical conditions to consider, verbal deescalation techniques, the Broset Violence Checklist, need to know medications for chemical intervention, and discussion regarding an extreme form of agitation called excited delirium.
