N2 - In the current essay, the author examines culturally relevant mindfulness practices. The author argues that an Afrocentric Worldview is essential within African American experiences. Mindfulness interventions directed toward African Americans must consider characteristics that are integral to many within the people group. The Africentric therapeutic approach NTU is used as a framework. This essay gives special attention to the success of mindfulness with African American women in family settings. The author discusses health disparities, stressors, and social support and concludes with recommendations for future research.
