Abstract
Thermal decomposition of jet fuels leads to the formation of solid deposits which interfere with various functions of an aircraft fuel system. Only a limited number of many studies on autoxidative deposit formation from jet fuels were concerned with the microstructure or morphology of solid deposits. This paper presents polarized-light microscopy studies of solid deposits produced by thermal stressing of petroleum-and coal-derived JP-8 jet fuels and some model compounds including decane, tetradecane, decalin, and n-and t-butylbenzene.
