Abstract
Transmission electron miscoscopy (TEM) and electron diffraction were used for analyzing passive iron-oxide nanocrystals grown on Fe(100) and Fe(110) facets of single-crystal Fe whiskers. The oxide spinel structure and their epitaxial growth on Fe whiskers were characterized by the techniques used. Magnetic force microscopy (MFM) measurements were also performed on the nanocrystals. The MFM measurements indicated that the oxide nanocrystals grown on Fe(100) have sizes that were close to the single domain Fe 3O 4 particles.
