Abstract

Thermally-sprayed zinc and aluminum coatings have been proven capable of providing long-term, cost-effective corrosion protection to steel structures in marine environments. The corrosion resistance of thermally-sprayed aluminum coatings was found to be from the presence of a passive film. Zinc-aluminum or aluminum-zinc alloy coatings appear capable of combining the long-term protection of aluminum and the cathodic protection capabilities of zinc.
