Abstract
The physical and chemical characteristics of glass surfaces were investigated. The dependence of surface composition on the thermal history was observed. The effect of process conditions on surface composition were described with the help of the developed database. The hydration/dehydration behavior of CGW 1737 glass was studied. The temperature-programmed static secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) of surface silanol concentration showed the effects of heat-treatment on the dehydration and rehydration behavior.
