Abstract

Air-carrier CDA's (controlled droplet atomizers) provided more uniform coverage of the chemical conditioning treatment over the whole alfalfa plant than that obtained with conventional nozzles. Plant coverage ratings decreased with reduced application rate because the alfalfa was no longer 'soaked' with the chemical. With an air-curtain type CDA using straight stream airflow, drying rate was maintained when application rate was reduced from 280 to at least 150 L/ha.
