Abstract

The new section on Feeding and Eating Disorders in the published fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) includes several changes. Feeding and Eating Disorders has taken a lifespan approach, made modest changes to anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa diagnostic criteria, eliminated the diagnostic category Eating Disorder Not Otherwise Specified, recognized the diagnostic category of Binge Eating Disorder, and included Avoidant/Restrictive Food Intake Disorder. The DSM-5 criteria for Feeding and Eating Disorders have the potential to improve clinical utility and diagnostic accuracy.
