Abstract
Advanced coal cleaning techniques reaching commercialization can help to keep coal-fired power generation cost-effective and meet stringent 1990s emissions regulations. These technologies, most prominently fine heavy-media cycloning and column froth flotation, reduce sulfur and ash contents below levels previously achieved with conventional technology. Recent improvements in coal cleaning ancillary operations - screening and dewatering - have helped these coal cleaning processes to reach commercial application.
