Abstract

The determination of cross sections and rate coefficients for collisions of two spin-polarized metastable hydrogen atoms at low energies and temperatures was discussed. Complex scaling and Feshbach projection methods were considered for the determination of molecular potential-energy curves. Ionization caused the collisional quenching of the metastable atoms at temperatures below 20 mK.
