Abstract

Mathematics educators and mathematicians are participants in mathematics teacher education, often collaborating to educate teachers of mathematics in pre-service and in-service settings. In this chapter, we review literature on such collaborations and introduce the construct of synergistic collaboration, including an articulation of indicators of the construct. Further, we illustrate synergistic collaboration through descriptions of two United States contexts in which mathematics teacher educators and mathematicians collaborate to educate future and practicing teachers.
