Abstract
Thermal radiation is a significant factor affecting thermal comfort microclimatic conditions of different man-made environments, especially those relying on solar heat. Mean Radiant Temperature (MRT) is an indication of the comfort conditions in an enclosure with different surface temperature, such as Trombe walls, Direct Gain, Water walls, etc. . A graphical correlation (design patterns) of shape factors (surface area indicative) and outdoor db temperature has been developed with respect to Mean Radiant Temperature of 62, 63, 64 degree F for different glazing types in isothermal enclosures. A parametric analysis involving eight diverse, however, equally sized rooms with eight different glass apertures and locations for outside air temperature ranging from minus 40 degree F to 50 F have been analyzed for thermal comfort.
