Abstract
Low solids coal-water slurry fuels (CWSFs) were prepared from cleaned impounded fines, dewatered waste fines from active cleaning plants, and from unprocessed ROP feedstocks. The CWSFs were prepared without the use of viscosity and stability modifiers. Results indicated that these low solids CWSFs can be prepared using a simple high intensity mixing circuit. The CWSFs utilized in the wall-fired utility boilers contained 50 to 55 wt% solids with a nominal top size of 60 mesh. Similar solid loadings were used in cyclone boilers but the top size approached 1/4 inch.
