N2 - A new adaptive notch filter based on the complex heterodyne approach achieves better performance than a similar filter designed using the popular Gray-Markel all-pass lattice circuit. Both adaptive filters make use of a simple second-order FIR adaptive filter using the LMS algorithm to detect the narrow-band interference. The Gray-Markel filter is tuned to the narrow-band interference by adjusting one parameter in the lattice circuit, while the complex heterodyne filter is fixed with the heterodyne frequency adjusted to the narrow-band interference. The new adaptive filter is able to respond to changes in the narrow-band interference frequency more quickly and provides better attenuation during the transition than does the popular Gray-Markel filter.
