Abstract

Nitroglycerin spray has recently been approved for use in this country. The purported advantages of the spray preparation are that it is more stable and better absorbed than tablets in patients who have xerostomia or are edentulous.1 Although several studies have compared the effects of the spray preparation to tablets on arterial pressure, heart rate, exercise tolerance and ventricular function,1-3 there has been no comparison of the venodilatory effects of the 2 preparations. This study compares the effects of nitroglycerin spray and tablets on forearm venous tone as determined by plethysmography.
