N2 - Many techniques and tools in visual analytic are available to help users explore the data and discover the insight behind. However as the data grows tremendous, the problems become increasingly complex that these original insights can no longer meet users' need. Therefore, creating a visual analytical tool becomes necessary to integrate these insights, and utilize them to support complex cognitive activities like problem solving, sensemaking, analytical reasoning, etc. This paper presents the research and development of visual analytical tool for complex cognitive activities, based on study of cognitive theory and complex cognitive activity in visual analytic. In this paper, the conclusions are given that the visual analytical tools could be developed according to the top-down stepwise decomposition as well as analysis of complex cognitive activities, and the visual presentation should also be driven by complex cognitive activities.
