Abstract
A study of leaf composting was carried out at a demonstration site located at Croton Point in Westchester County, New York. Extensive environmental monitoring and detailed economic analysis were carried out at the Croton Point facility, which involved monitoring the water that infiltrated into the soil beneath the compost site in order to gauge its probable effect on the quality of local groundwater. The paper discusses the study results, including the effects of leaf compost on local groundwater, and management strategies for municipal composting.
