title = "Compressive stiffness of the lumbar functional spinal unit can be modified by nucleus implant parameter variations",
abstract = "The effect of variation in the nucleus implant parameters on the compressive stiffness of the human lumbar functional spinal unit (FSU) was studied. It was shown that the nucleus implant material and geometric parameters have significant effect on the FSU compressive stiffness. It was found that denucleation of the specimen significantly reduces the FSU stiffness. It was also shown that for a number of implants, the implanted FSU stiffness was comparable to the BI condition stiffness.",
