Abstract
In recent years, our understanding of the effects of trichothecene mycotoxins has been vastly expanded, in part because of emerging recognition of the importance of the compounds as naturally occurring contaminants of grains and forages, and of late as agents allegedly used for chemical warfare. It is hoped that it will be useful to summarize some of what we believe to be the major dysfunctions involved in trichothecene toxicosis. Nevertheless, it is clear that additional investigations will be needed before we thoroughly understand the complex pathophysiology that comprises trichothecene mycotoxicosis. Indeed, one of the goals of this chapter is to illustrate some of the many gaps in our present knowledge.
