Abstract
The paper describes a micro-computer system that facilitates the teaching of real time, real world concepts at the advanced level. The system allows the student to simulate a process plant of his own design, associate I-O channels to the individual components and then write a control or sequencer program to control the plant operation using the given assembler. The graphics section then displays the plant as a 'cartoon' while showing the program trace in a separate window. The system can be operated in slow motion or in real time and can be made to generate random faults for validation of the completeness and failsafe design of the student's program.
