Abstract
Consumer-directed health plans have moved from a novelty to the main stage of the US health insurance landscape. At the same time, broader health benefits program changes are unfolding across all types of plans. This article provides an updated report on the prevalence of CDHPs and examines the three-year trend in their growth. We also examine several key features of CDHPs and contrast these with managed care plans. Our study uses national survey data collected by Mercer Human Resource Consulting from 680 commercial health plans.
