Abstract
Satellite estimates of precipitation were interpretated. Remotely sensed global precipitation measurements were important to both the water and the energy balance of the earth-atmosphere system. Both the determination and the calibration of this remotely measured quantity was expected to depend upon the differences in heat and water vapor fluxes and their vertical transports into the deeper atmosphere over the oceans and over the continents.
