Abstract
Hypothesizes that the influence of three variables on perceived crowding among hikers on the White Mountain National Forest in New Hampshire will vary according to hikers' level of specialization. Results confirmed that inexperienced and infrequent hikers, low specialists, depended more heavily than specialized hikers on contacts in evaluating crowding, although the evaluations of all hikers were influenced most by the degree to which contacts exceeded preferences. -from Authorsperceived crowding hikers White Mountain National Forest New Hampshire
