Abstract

Crystal and domain structure of the BiFeO3-PbTiO3 solid solution were studied. The anti-phase rotations of FeO6 octahedra about the pseudocubic [111] axis decreased in amplitude as the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) was approached. Superstructure reflections that are consistent with both the rhombohedral and tetrahedral phases have been observed in electron diffraction patterns suggesting the existence of an intermediate phase.
