Abstract
CUC (CUP-SHAPED COTYLEDON) is a family of plant-specific transcription factors, belonging to a subfamily of the NAC (NAM/ATAF/CUC) superfamily. Members of this family play important roles in plant organ boundary separation, shoot apical meristem formation, leaf morphology and floral organ development. This paper mainly reviews the origin, evolution, structure, classification and biological functions of CUC subfamily genes, as well as their molecular metabolic pathways, hormone pathways, and epigenetic modification regulation processes. The latest research progress on this gene family is summarized in order to provide reference and help for the further studies on the growth, development and functions of this transcription factor family in different species.
