Abstract
The cumulative knowledge and the teaching of engineering design processes are discussed. The design related requirements that ABET places on U.S engineering programs for accrediation include development of student creativity and use of open-ended problems. ABET also indicates that design experience should include a variety of realistic constraints such as economic factors, safety and reliability. The accumulation and articulation of the design knowledge in curriculum are also elaborated.
