    Abstract

Adaptive digital filter are designed for applications in which parameters of the problem are not known priori, or they may be changing in a slow but unknown way. This paper presents two research areas in adaptive digital filtering where efforts are being made to improve the state of the art for high speed processing of images and image sequences, as might be encountered in digital video systems. The first area concerns the development of two dimensional adaptive digital filtering concepts for use in digital video systems, while the second concerns the guaranteeing of reliable adaptive processing through the concept of adaptive fault tolerance.
