Abstract

This chapter, "Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Issues in Self-Service Technology Use", explores security and cybersecurity challenges in Self-Service Technologies (SST), referring to systems and platforms that enable customers to perform various service-related tasks independently, without direct assistance from company representatives. By synthesizing academic literature, media coverage, and firm disclosures, this study provides a comprehensive analysis of SST literature and analyzes the findings with respect to their impact on data privacy, theft, fraud prevention, system vulnerabilities, and regulatory compliance in the context of SST. The chapter highlights the evolving dynamics between security measures and sophisticated cyberattacks, addressing the intersection of technological advancements and consumer data concerns.
