Abstract
The deformation of chemical vapor deposited silicon carbide monofilaments under variable step-wise mechanical loads was studied by creep measurements and modeling. Results show that stress history influences the overall creep behavior of the SCS-6 monofilaments. The back stress constitutive law is presented as a better alternative in predicting the creep behavior, as long as the evolution of the back stress is established during strain recovery as well as during creep.
