Abstract
Advances in ultrasound transducer technology can lead to improvements in the assessment of skin disease. In clinical research, noninvasive methods of assessing skin structure in both health and disease are clearly needed. Ultrasound imaging of the skin before and after treatment can add an important objective assessment in the clinical evaluation of therapeutic agents that are designed to reverse disease-induced changes in the skin. The applications and drawbacks of ultrasound technology in the evaluation of skin disease are discussed.
