N2 - This paper developed models which can be used to find the position a rotating tool holder held within a kinematically-constrained traction-drive spindle for various force and displacement inputs. The results suggest that the spindle would exhibit high stiffness and high speed. Several design challenges remain to be addressed, such as the removal of the tool holder from the spindle and application of the traction oil.
