Abstract

Unavailable, inaccurate, or nonconforming healthcare information services have been recognized as a main cause to the millions of medication errors annually in the U.S. each year. Based on our previously proposed Internet healthcare computing model, this paper proposes an approach to providing an affordable, interoperable, easy-to-integrate, and easy-to-use medical information service network to ensure the continuity of healthcare from doctors, healthcare professionals to patients, and to enable easy access to medical information at point-of-need. Web services, wireless, voice-to-Web convergence, visualization, and advanced automatic identification technologies are fully integrated in the proposed service model and design.
