Abstract

At the Pennsylvania State University, both a long-term left ventricular assist device and total artificial heart are under development. Both of these devices are completely implanted with no percutaneous leads. In all these devices, the same overall design philosophy has been used. In this paper, this philosophy will be described referring to the total artificial heart system.
