Abstract
Angle-resolved SIMS measurements have been used to examine the chemisorption of CO on Ni(001). The measurements for the Ni//2** plus and NiCO** plus clusters exhibit large azimuthal anisotropies with peaks at the same angles as clean Ni(001). The Ni** plus distribution, however, is nearly isotropic. The results are in excellent agreement with calculated angular distributions for Ni and NiCO using a classical dynamics treatment and assumig the CO is linearly bonded to a surface Ni atom following recent LEED data.
